Rajiv Kapur was born in Mumbai and raised in Delhi where he did most of his schooling. He obtained degrees in B.E. (Hons.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M.Sc. Physics as a part of the dual degree program at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. He followed that with an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, California.
