ISA Technovation Initiative seeks to provide continuous momentum towards promoting innovation in semiconductor research. This initiative recognises role models and offers incentives to fresh talent to excel.

In today’s knowledge intensive world a nation’s strength lies in its capability to innovate in core technological areas. In immediate past and in the years to come, the semiconductor technology will continue to be a core technology that contributes immensely to a nation’s economic strength. Therefore, it is imperative for us to have a sustained effort and strategy to promote and propagate semiconductor research in our R & D institutions. - read more about Technovation Awards.

TechnoVisionary Award:

A lifetime achievement award for a global Indian or Person of Indian Origin for his or her contributions in the field of semiconductors.

This award has been instituted to recognize and honor a visionary in the semiconductor space, who have over the years made seminal contributions that have made a difference to the semiconductor ecosystem globally. The awardee’s path-breaking contributions could be in academics, research or industry.

This award recognizes excellence sustained over a professional career. It is awarded to a person who has made several path braking contributions on any aspect of the semiconductor industry during her/his long professional career - academics, research or industry. Luminaries who made a difference to the semiconductor ecosystem are qualified for nomination to ISA TechnoVisionary award, as long as they satisfy the basic criterion set for it by the Technovation Team and TechnoVisionary award selection panel. The nominees for the awards should be either global Indian or PIO.

Winner 2007:

Prof. Krishna Saraswat, Stanford University
ISA-TechnoVisionary Award winner 2007

Prof. Krishna Saraswat's most significant contributions include Si/Ge technology for Nanoscale MOSFET transistor and optical interconnects, 3-dimensional integrated circuits technology with multiple layers of heterogeneous devices, Single wafer manufacturing for a microfactory, Thin film technology for VLSI interconnections and contacts, Development of several simulators for process, equipment and factory performance simulations.

Prof. Saraswat's research has positively impacted the business of several firms like Toshiba, Intel, Samsung, Matsushita Electronics Corp, Renesas Technology and others.

TechnoShield Award:

This award recognizes excellence achieved in ISA’s domains of interest by an institution or organization in India. A research entity such as a laboratory or a department may seek this award by applying through their respective institutes.

This award is a rolling shield that will be given to the winner each year and they will keep it for that year. This should instill a very healthy sense of competition, achievement and pride of winning the award.

Winners 2007:

TechnoShield Award: IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur

The award (a rolling shield) is given away to the best academic institution in India for its remarkable work in the semiconductor space.

The joint winners this time are IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur. Their Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering departments have accomplished admirable research competence in the Semiconductor space. The books authored by their Professors have significantly pushed the envelope in Semiconductor research.

TechnoInventor Award:

There are two categories of ISA TechnoInventor Awards. One category is for Doctoral thesis and another for thesis submitted at the Master’s level. ISA may even support publishing these thesis. ISA plans to keep the number of awards flexible with a view to give away as many awards as it deems deserving in that given year.

Winners 2007:

Dr. R K Sharma, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra
ISA TechnoInventor Award winner 2007

Dr. Sharma's Ph.D thesis - "Sonic Radiation Transit Time Based Measurement System" has helped in developing a technique to detect/estimate adulteration in gasoline and diesel. This technique profoundly impacts the petroleum industry in maintaining their quality standards. Another application of this technique is in the area of automatic irrigation control for the agriculture sector.

Mr. Syam Sundar Reddy, IIT Madras
ISA TechnoInventor Award winner 2007

Syam Sunder's thesis - "NOVEL CLB Architectures and Techniques to Mitigate SEU Faults in SRAMbased FPGAs" proposes a novel FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) based architecture for detecting and correcting SEU caused logic and routing errors. The proposed architecture illustrates the efficiency of later over existing SEU tolerant FPGA architectures and associated methodology, in terms of area, power and performance.
