Background
Sanjeev K Aggarwal is with the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering at IIT Kanpur where he was the head of the
department during Aug 2002-Dec 2005. He has about twenty
years of research and teaching experience in the area of
Compiler Design. For his PhD thesis, he worked on Automatic
code Generation problem and developed a frame work for retargetable
code generation (advisor Professor Vishv M Malhotra). This
work was later used in Industrial compilers. He has published
extensively in international forums and has handled a large
number of industry/government funded projects.
He worked with Tata Research Development
and Design Centre, Pune from 1986 to 1990. At TRDDC he was
project leader for CHILL compiler suite which were developed
for C-DOT's digital switches. The project involved development
of highly optimizing CHILL compilers and debuggers. This
was a large project involving about 12 programmers over
a period of three years. He has hands on experience with
compiler development, testing and project management.
Study Field
His areas of research interest are Grid Computing, High
Performance Computing, Compilers for High Performance Architectures,
Compiler Design, Code Optimization, Code Generation, and
Application of Language Processing Technology in Tools for
Software Engineering. He has been teaching courses on Grid
Computing, Compiler Design, Compilers for High Performance
Architectures, and Programming languages.
Prof. Sanjeev’s Teaching interest
lies in courses on Grid Computing, Compiler Design, Compilers
for High Performance Architectures, and Programming languages.

IIT Kanpur was established by an act of Parliament in 1959.
The institute was started in December 1959 at Agricultural
Gardens in Kanpur. In 1963, the Institute moved to its present

Background
Preeti Ranjan Panda received his B. Tech. degree in Computer
Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology,
Madras, in 1990, and his M. S. and Ph.D. degrees in Information
and Computer Science from the University of California at
Irvine in 1995 and 1997 respectively. He is currently an
Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
He has previously worked at Texas Instruments, Bangalore
(1990-1993) and the Advanced Technology Group at Synopsys
Inc., Mountain View (1998-2002).
He is the author of the book Memory issues
in Embedded Systems-on-chip: Optimizations and Exploration,
Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1999. He received an Honourable
Mention Award at the International Conference on VLSI Design,
Bangalore, 1992. He is a recipient of the U. C. Regents
Dissertation Fellowship and a Department of Science and
Technology Young Scientist Award. He has served on the Technical
Program Committees and chaired sessions at several conferences
in the areas of CAD/VLSI and Embedded Systems: ICCAD, DATE,
ASPDAC, CODES/ISSS, VLSI Design, VLSI-SoC, EUC, and VDAT.
Study Field:
1. Low Power Design
He has worked in different aspects
of power-efficient architectures, compiler optimizations,
and memory/data organisation, and am interested in application-specific
architectures for reducing power. Power modelling of systems
at various levels of abstraction is of interest to me.
2. Hardware Synthesis
He is interested in hardware synthesis and related issues:
behavioural optimisations, delay estimation during synthesis,
power optimizations during synthesis, hardware/software
partitioning. He is currently building a behavioural synthesis
environment with SystemC as input.
3. Architecture
He is currently working with Intel on a Cache Compression
project that is intended to reduce the debug cycle time
and cost of processor validation by compressing the data
traffic between the processor and the logic analyzer.

Dr. V. Ramgopal Rao is a Professor in the Department of
Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay. Dr.Rao's areas of interest
include Physics, Technolology and Characterization of Silicon
CMOS devices for logic and mixed-signal applications, Bio-MEMS,
and Nanoelectronics. He has over 160 publications publications
in these areas in refereed international journals and conference
proceedings and holds two patents. Prof. Rao received the
prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Engineering
Sciences in 2005 for his work on Electron Devices. He is
also an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices
in the CMOS Devices and Technology area and is a Distinguished
Lecturer (DL), IEEE Electron Devices Society. He is a Fellow
of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and a Fellow,
IETE.

Dr. Rao received the Swarnajayanti Fellowship award in 2004,
instituted by the Department of Science and Technology,
Govt. of India. He is also a working group member setup
by the DIT, Govt. of India on Nanotechnology. He was the
organizing committee chair for the 17th International Conference
on VLSI Design, and was Chairman, IEEE AP/ED Bombay Chapter
during 2002-2003.

The Centre for Electronics Design and Technology was established
in 1974 at the Indian Institute of Science. During the years
1974-1997 CEDT received funds from the Department of Electronics
and Swiss Development Co-operation besides the regular support
received from the Indian Institute of Science. The generous

and establish a good postgraduate degree programme to train

CEDT started its postgraduate Diploma programme

The Year 1994 marks the 200th anniversary of the College
of Engineering, Guindy, Madras. Started as a Survey School
in 1794, it was established as a College in 1859, and later
