The India Semiconductor Association (ISA), the trade body representing the Indian
semiconductor driven industry, will host global conference 'Vision Summit 2008' on February 18.
Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh will be chief guest and the keynote address will
be delivered by Azim H. Premji, Chairman, Wipro.
The theme of two-day conference is 'Evolving domestic market: Growth driver for the Indian
electronics industry.'
Speakers are stalwarts in both design and manufacturing as also policy makers at the State and
Central level. Entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and economists will also share their
perspectives.
According to Poornima Shenoy, President, ISA, "This is our third consecutive global conference.
The emerging Indian market is the key driver of the industry impacting both design and
manufacturing."
"It is important for ISA to highlight the intrinsic worth of India. We have the support of our
Ministries at both the State and Central level to do so. This year's participation is from nearly
200 companies, with 300 plus delegates from over six nations," added Shenoy |

Reliance Technology Ventures Limited (RTVL), the corporate venture capital arm of the
Reliance ADA Group, continues with its investments in foreign telecom startups. In its latest
deal, RTVL has made an undisclosed investment in Sequans Communications, a France and US
based company that provides WiMax chips. RTVL has made this investment along with SwissCom
and CDC Enterprises. The total round is $28 million. The existing investors include Alcatel-
Lucent, Motorola, Societe Generale Asset Management, Add Partners, Cap-Decisif, Kennet
Venture Partners, Vision Capital and I-Source Gestion. |

The EDA industry recovered from a slump in 2006, coming in with approximately 11 percent
growth. The results for various quarters of 2007, for publicly traded companies in EDA, are on
an upward track - expected to be 10 percent or more - notwithstanding an occasional hiccup or

Given the growing problems at Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), one analyst speculated that
Nvidia Corp. could buy the troubled processor maker. Doug Freedman, an analyst with
American Technology Research Inc., also urged AMD to make some major changes at the top
amid a series of problems at the chip maker. ''We believe AMD [could] face mounting pressure
from shareholders, to restructure the company with a focus on a change in leadership,'' he said.

percent growth last year, according to SEMI. The analysis represents a downward revision of
the previous outlook, as many fab construction projects are being put on hold or pushed out to
